1909
Establishment of the world's first accident stations at the I and II University Clinic for Surgery at the General Hospital in Vienna, under the clinic directors Anton von Eiselsberg and Julius von Hochenegg (a total of 61 beds).

1925
Foundation of the first accident hospital in Vienna by the General Accident Insurance Institution (AUVA), under the leadership of Lorenz Böhler, who was primarily responsible for establishing traumatology as an independent surgical discipline.

1971
Conversion of the two accident stations at the I and II University Clinic for Surgery at AKH Vienna into "chairs for traumatology" at the University of Vienna. (Significantly responsible: Prof. Dr. Paul Fuchsig). With the conversion, the chairs I and II for traumatology were established at the University of Vienna.

1976
Establishment of the independent university clinics for traumatology I and II. First head of the former I University Clinic for Traumatology: Prof. Dr. Emanuel Trojan (until 1991). First head of the former II University Clinic for Traumatology: Prof. Dr. Hans Spängler, Succession: Prim. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Paul Fasol; Univ. Prof. Dr. Emmerich Egkher.

1992
Merger of the two university clinics for traumatology into one large, joint clinic and relocation to the new building of the General Hospital under o.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Vilmos Vécsei, head of the University Clinic for Traumatology.

2010
On the occasion of the retirement of the long-time head of the University Clinic for Traumatology, o. Univ.-Prof. Dr. h.c.mult. Vilmos Vécsei, a commemorative publication was compiled with the most important figures and facts of the clinic (1992-2009). Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stefan Hajdu, MBA was appointed interim head of the University Clinic for Traumatology.

2015
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stefan Hajdu, MBA was appointed head of the University Clinic for Traumatology.

2018
Merger of the University Clinic for Traumatology and the University Clinic for Orthopedics into a joint University Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology under the leadership of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Reinhard Windhager and the deputy head of the University Clinic as well as head of the Clinical Department for Traumatology Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stefan Hajdu
