Karl Chiari was the first head of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University Hospital Vienna. At this time, in 1962, the Department of Orthopaedics developed as a self-contained unit for the first time in Vienna. Karl Chiari is regarded as the founder of modern orthopaedics in Vienna.
The naming of our Lab for Orthopaedic Biology after Karl Chiari expresses our solidarity with the orthopaedic tradition in Vienna and adds a high recognition value to our institution.
