The outcome of medical interventions is not easy to measure and interpret because of differences between the subjective perception of patients and the judgment of health professionals commonly viewed as more objective; therefore, a different value is often
attributed to an outcome by patients and physicians. Personal preferences, values and cultural beliefs, as well as contextual-environmental and personal factors, such as gender, age, other health conditions, lifestyle, habits, upbringing, coping styles, education etc., play an important role in how patients are able to function, cope and master their daily life. 

At our department we care about the patients reported outcome (PRO) as a resource to improve communication between patients and health-care providers as well as a feedback loop in the departments quality management. Criteria for positive outcomes must be specified including thresholds above which the outcome of an intervention is attributed to be a success. Once defined, Patient-reported outcome (PRO/PROM) measures are essential sources of clinical information for patients and stakeholders in health care institutions. 

Since 2020 we have been using electronic Patient Reported Outcome Scores (ePRO) via Email/SMS over Research, Documentation and Analysis (RDA) Platform, for data gathering has to be adapted to modern and usual mediums.  ePRO can bridge areal distances between the patient and the hospital as well as keep contact in an actual pandemic isolation due to COVID-19 in a secure way. They give patients the opportunity to be filled out in a calm atmosphere or as for distraction during waiting time. 

Currently Members of this research cluster are working on projects including PROM from patients after malignant tumors of the extremities (Sarcomas), patients after total joint replacement and after spine surgery.
